Question:

After an HSG have you felt this?

I had my HSG yesterday morning (it sucked, thanks for asking) and starting last night and continuing all of today, mostly on my right side (and that was the tube that was open!) I am feeling a sharp pain. It's high on my abdomen, maybe 5 finger widths beneath my right breast and I feel the sharp pain for maybe 5 seconds and then it subsides. I probably feel maybe 6-10 pains an hour. More recently, I am feeling a pain lower on my left side, closer to where I think my ovary would be and this is intermittent as well. I'm taking the antibiotic I was prescribed so I doubt it could be an infection starting. I'm just wondering if anyone who's had an HSG has felt like this the day after and how long I can expect it to continue. It's definitely less painful today than yesterday but I'm surprised that I'm still feeling it. Any thoughts?

  1. well first off i felt the most intense pain on my right side when they  inflated balloon I thought i was going to die then i had an endrometrial  biopsy and the same pain appeared again (i almost cried) n i have an extremely large pain tolerance.. SO I FEEL YOU .  but in both times no answer why =(.... your honest to goodness best bet is call the doc if it dont ease up and if it does just mention it on the next visit cause i am confident if you are doing the testing you will be in soon either prego or for another test .....so hang in there and call the doc if you have any question and good luck to you on gettin prego

  2. For me the HSG was the most intense pain I have EVER felt!  For a couple of days after I had cramps in both sides on and off.  They got milder over the time and eventually went away.

The pain you are feeling should go away in time, should it get worse or last longer than a couple more days, I would call a Nurse in the department where you had the HSG done.   Even if it's just to put your mind at ease!

I've heard that fertility would be increased for 3 months after the HSG due to 'the cobwebs' being flushed out!  So good luck!

  3. I had mild cramping the day I had it done and the next day.  I had spotting for 2-3 days as well.  My test was horrible too but over quickly.  I felt like if it was going to take a second longer I was going to start crying.  But I got through it.  They told me to take Advil an hour before the test and then take it for a couple of days after along with my antibiotic.  So maybe that is why I felt less cramping.  Try that and taking a warm bath.  If it doesn't go away soon or gets worse you may want to call the doctor.

    Best wishes!!!
