Destruction or coming close to it is not going to be evident very soon, so current deniers will be safe. They can pretend to have been onside all along by the time we know for sure.

But not also that what you call deniers come in a lot of different shades.

We have those who deny that warming is occurring,

those who are not convinced that human activity is primarily to blame, but who agree that it is happening,

and then we have those who acknowledge a major human contribution, but are not convinced that we can stop global warming, feeling that we need to take actions to mitigate what we will not stop.

Now any of those positions might induce people to give up, not try to stop AGW. That would be unfortunate, but remember that a large part of the population has never taken so much as one university level course in climatology. Even  a lot of people writing popular columns have no university level science background.

We should not be surprised that they are viewing this as a political issue. These people do not spend their time reading Journal Science. So just how did you ever hope to get the message to them? Prophet Al? No, that guy comes to the discussion, first day, saying the discussion is over, you guys have lost it. This was before these people have ever had any part in the discussion.

That might work where everyone accepts the scientist as high priest. In America it leaves one large group of people saying 'You have not bothered to convince me.'

You can only make this statement because of your bias.

In Geology we know about the damage of a single volcano, flood, ice storm, drought, hurricanes, typhoons, earthquake,

fires due to lightning. With abundant food and water animal populations increase and strip the vegetation bare, causing starvation.

The cycle is constantly striving for homeostasis, or balance, as you say.

We as humans need to allow euthanasia on demand, abortion on demand at any stage of the pregnancy, recycle dead humans into fertilizer for crops, terminate all pregnancies with deformed, fetuses, allow terminal ill to choose euthanasia, allow suicide centers for all those wishing to do so from age 12 on, allow govt grown and taxed mood altering drugs, terminate all obese humans due to the cost of their medical care, free medical care, food, clothing, education. The United Nations will ban warfare. Provide free trade among all countries, free housing for all. Form a govt committee to ban crime, UN to ban disease, govt supported 4 week vacations at govt expense, free tanning salons for all white people, free bleaching salons for all people of color, free tickets for Manchester futbol games, schools to ban homework, students to be paid for grades, teacher salaries to be equal to top sales staff of commercial companies,

You know Virgil, the thing that impresses me the most about the deniers is none of them seem to know their right from their left.  A Communist is the extreme Left.  A n**i is the extreme Right.  The Communist State is Totalitarian, owned by the people, encompassing every aspect of their lives, and existing solely at their sufferance.  Communism is the idealized form of Socialism.  A n**i is a type of Fascist.  A Fascist State is Authoritarian.  The citizens exist solely to serve the State.  The government has absolute authority so there can be a single National will and purpose.

Life thrived on Earth hundreds of millions of years at CO2 levels in excess of 3000ppm.  (current level ~380ppm) but we all know the fossil record doesn't matter to the deeply religious.

I particularly like your comment about the ice age in the 1200s and expanding ice, because if you had checked before making this up, you would have found this is right in the middle of the medieval warm period (AD 800 to 1300) and the Vikings were farming in Greenland. and they didn't leave till the 15th century.

Cliff F: I am well aware of the history of Krakatoa and it's eruptions, I saw no point in mentioning the previous eruption as its date was further out of date than the 1883 date and I saw no reason to make Virgil look any sillier. It would seem a mute point as Virgil has deleted his answer anyway and has taken his fact (or lack of them) with him.

This is a loaded question. It is geared to get a reaction. Perhaps you are lonely and smart. Loney and smart... that makes you a bit skeptical, and perhaps a little sarcastic. That's what you hide your own brand of fear behind. I see you.

Some of us, the ones out here, observing what is going on. We have our finger to the pulses of the earth, the pulses of nature.

Like a rider with his hand lightly on the rein, sitting loose and balanced in the saddle, we ride our way though all these questions, and answers. Looking at the lay of the land, clicking on links, reading this/ that... taking in snippets of imformation, adding them to our own expreince.

Just like you, we see prices rising, tensions rising, temperatures rising. The heat is being turned up. We know it.

No, because by their very nature they will deny having denied it and will (again) blame the scientists for not telling them it was going to happen or they will claim Al Gore pushed the GW theory forward using reverse psychology, knowing if he put it forward they would have to deny it, so if it does happen its still his fault, for telling them it was going to happen, standard denier logic.

Ah the Mars is warming theory what about Pluto it is also warming, but deniers have stopped mentioning it, because it has warmed by 3 times the amount as Earth which means something else is the cause

The Mars link to solar warming is the work of Habibullo Abdussamatov this is a pointless and easily disproved theory.

a) If the Sun were warming it would affect all objects in the solar system, it isn't

b) The sun is monitored constantly, no increase in output has been observed (SOHO Satellite)

I have to explain to Dan R, that Krakatoa has erupted many times in it's past. The eruption in 1883 which you so proudly refer to was only the latest and best documented major event.

Another major explosion occurred in 535AD.

While Virgil may have said it happened 800 years ago and not closer to 1500 years ago is beside the point!

You either seem to believe that Krakatoa only erupted once, or you are deliberately trying to throw a 'smoke screen' in an attempt to discredit valid facts.
