When will I be in my own platoon? Will it be the people at basic training or the people at job training that I Will be with or do I get a new one every time I move to a different base?

  1. After Basic you normally go through Infantry training and then to the school for your specialty training. After that, you are assigned to a unit. Depending on how many people from Basic go to the same school you do, you may be stationed with some of them. Just depends on where your job is needed. I was the only one in my Basic Platoon who went to Communications school.

  2. u go to your MOS school and afterwards u get assgned to a unit. sometime u can get assigned to a unit even before MOS school. it all depends on your orders

  3. It will also depend on what you do.  If you go into the Mil for a combat M O S (cav scout, infantry, tanker) You will do a full 16 weeks in one spot (one station unit training) and then have a 2 week leave, then go to your duty station where you will be in a platoon.   The people in your platoon in basic are not going to be the people in your actual platoon in your duty station.. you might have a couple people go to the same unit, but not many.  Bottom line though, if you are thinking about joining the mil, take it from me, think about it long and hard.

  4. You will go to ait or osut or whatever branch you are in "advanced training". then from there you will be assigned to a unit. including a platoon, and every other level above that.

  5. After you complete basic, you will go to your AIT (unless you are in OSUT, then you will stay put). Most of the times, your AIT will be at a different post, sometimes it will be at the post you are at. It just depends. After you complete AIT (and any other school, i.e. Airborne if in your contract), you will get orders for a permanent duty station. Every time you move, you will be with new people and in a new unit.
