After buying a car do I need to get registration on it or does the dealer ship send me the sticker?

I bought a car recently (in june) the dealer ship has my liscense plate which i am picking up next week. When i purchased the car it only had one sticker which was the inspection. My question is does the dealership send me the registration? If not how do proceede to getting the registration? Thanks in advance.

i believe that the dealership will send off your registration for you, and when your tags come in you go and pick them up at the dealership. i bought a new car and they sent it off for me and i went back to get the sticker and plates. if you bought a used car i'm not sure how that would work...

The dealerships generally register your car for you.  Usually they will send you home with a temporary registration which is what those white pieces of paper stuck on the windows of the car are.  The state will send you a registration card and a sticker a few weeks later.

If you have any questions, I'd call the dealership and see what they recommend.

The dealership usually does it for you and they will tag on that charge onto the final cost of the car, it should have been listed on your bill of sale.  They will give you a temporary one where you attach it to the back of your car.  When I got my car my dealership called me so that I can go in and pick up the new registration because they don't send it to your place.  You have to sign for it when you pick it up.

Any dealer should handle title and registration (although, title will go to your lender unless fully paid for).  When you pick up your plates the registration should be with them (registration is required to order plates).

What tripped me up once was buying a truck in May and not realizing that all truck plates at that time expired in June.  So I never got a renewal notice.  Now my state staggers truck registration over different months.
