After cleaning the coffee pot, we get it ready for the morning by leaving water in the tank over night?

is this OK? I was told once many years ago by my grandmother, a lover of coffee, that one should always make coffee with what she called dead water, or water that was not right out of the tap. I guess my question really is, does it hurt leaving it in the tank so that all the morning crew has to do is turn it on? Oh, its a fancy Starbucks, like coffee machine. Thanks to ALL that answer, I really appreciate your input.

  1. I don't make coffee often but when I do I will pour the water in the night before. My coffee maker has an timer that will start the coffee at a certain time. I have always used the water from the prior day, it was how my dad did it. So I don't see how you are doing anything wrong. If it works for you then don't fix it.

  2. I'm a coffee snob too and there's no problem doing that.

    Dead water?

Your 'old grandmother's tale' of dead water is something I haven't ever heard of.

But that's when they perked and boiled their coffee; my mom did too!

No, it won't hurt. Many people do that!

  3. it is fine ,any water that is sitting at rest will become stagnant but over night you are 100% fine to use with no problem
