  1. Even though you "settled" on a credit card debt, the creditor is only required to update your credit history to show the debt is paid.  But all of the other negative information about late payments and collections will still be there.

    It will remain for 7 years, beginning from the date of your first delinquency.  

    In the future, when you negotiate a settlement, be sure to include a clause that they delete the entry before you pay them a dime.
