After embossing, what do you use to fill in color?

Once when making a card, I embossed a simple flower. I left the outline black but in the class I was in, someone had this stuff we used to fill the inside of the flower different colors. The colors were bright and it looked so good. I can't remember what we used and would like to find it. I have looked in stores, but nothing looks similar.

  2. I've always used felt tipped pens or watercolour pens to fill in colours after embossing.  The pen gives a lot more control than a brush, and felt pens come in a huge number of colours.
