  1. After that England was considered the greatest army/navy on Earth.

The English allowed the Spanish to keep their colonies. Because England had plenty of work to do in their current colonies.

  2. I think that it was merely a battle in an undeclared war which gave England dominance of the seas. As I understand it, the Spanish American colonies were in competition with those of England, France and, I think, Portugal. But England did not have the manpower to invade and conquer the Spanish colonies - instead, the privateers let the Spanish do the work and then intercepted the treasure ships en route to Spain. I believe that this was the start of England's naval dominance til WWI. I think! Hope that helps

  3. England did not take control of Spain's colonies. The reasoning behind was the wish for a balance of power to be maintianed within Europe. Power hungry countries have a away of being done away with throughout european history; England was ensuring that it would maintain it's position in European and colonial affairs but it would not become so prominent as to attract unwanted attention to its self. Spain was completely broken after the defeat of the Spanish armada and Philip II's invasion of the Netherlands had bankrupt the Spanish coffers. The lack of funding therefore caused the Spanish Armada to never be refitted and therefore giving the galleons of the English naval dominance in europe until WWI.

  4. The spanish armada was "defeated" because of the weather conditions...wind spreaded the armada and the spaniard werent able to invade England...

You can say that after this episode England little by little begun to grow until reached the position of the most pòwerful fleet in the world.

Spite the armadas defeat, Spain continued been very powerful until the end of 17th century. England wasnt able to take control of the spanish empire. because they werent as powerful to did so by that time...

After the armad`s defeat, England, as I told you begun gaining power and Spain remained powerful by a long period of time, we can say, by the time England was as military strong  as  Spain, the both of them did not see any objet to fight again each other since they have great part of the world under they dominance... They both have the hands full with their colonies...
