getting ready for an Army Physical my diet was mostly protein 2 days before physical I fasted and did not drink normal amount of water. When the urine test came back they said I had a high level amount of protein in my urine.

Anyone know what this may be from? Is there anything wrong with kidneys? Could I have a diabetes?

  1. Proteinuria can be caused by a variety of factors however in your case (as long as your other blood work came out normal) it was likely due to dehydration. You should maintain your fluids, this can affect many body systems and mess with your blood pressure so make sure you get enough fluids. (Were you trying to quickly lose weight for your physical by decreasing your food intake and dehydrating yourself? That can be very dangerous for your health!)

  2. Protein in urine is NOT normal, and is usually a sing of kidney disease.

HOWEVER, it could also have been caused by your high protein diate, OR by dehydration.

For high urine protein to be caused by diabetes, your diabetes would have to be seriously out of control, causing kidney damage.

There is no way for us here to be sure,

You need to see your personl doctor for more information and further tests.  The doctor will probably want to repeat the urine test -- but make sure that you are eating properly this time!

The doctor should also test for creatanine and BUN (indicators of kidney function), and blood glucose level. AKS THE DOCTOR to do an A1C test (average blood sugar) to rule out diabetes.
