After filing paperwork for life ins how long does it take to receive a check?

My husband and his brother were named beneficiary on their fathers life ins. We just sent the paperwork to the insurance company. How long does it take to receive a check from the insurance company? Also does anyone knows how to go about distributing the estate? We live out of town. He has one brother and 2 half brothers. Not sure if the half brothers are entitiled to anyting due to the fact they were adopted by another man years ago. We live out of state from where his father lived and we are unsure how to go about distributing the estate.

It's about two to three weeks, to get the check.

Distributing the estate - that's totally seperate from insurance.  It might have to go through probate court.   You've got the will, you've got the final expenses - but the executor of the estate has to do the actual distribution.  

It's really hard to be an out of estate executor.
