  1. Your flapper is probably shot, if it sounds like the toilet is running every few minutes. It is because the flapper valve is letting out a tny but of water, dropping your float and starting the water to fill up the tank again. Remove the cover to thte tank, stick you hand in there and seeif there is any debris or c**p keeping the flapper vavle from shutting all the way. If it is clean, you may have to change the flapper. If that is the case, be sure to get the same one or asclose to the same as possible.

  2. he's right, its the flapper

  3. take the top off the tank ,look straight down into the bottom you will see the flapper ,replace it and no more leak..........tom

  4. The tank flapper that seals the drain hole in the tank bottom is probably not seating properly. If enough water leaks out and into the bowl, the tank will refill on its own with a rush of water, sounding like a phantom flush, some times the seat will have mineral deposits try cleaning it or the fapper is warped allowing water to slip out, if cleaning don't help replace the flapper or you could buy the kit flapper and seat u will have to remove the water tank to add the seat and fapper kit the flapper itself could just be replace from inside your water tank no tools needed flapper is the sometimes red or black color flapper tha goes up when you flush and sends water into you bowl, Try first adjusting your water level from your fill valve if its to high on the water level it'll also cause the water to start to maintain your high level. water should not be at top of your in tank white pipe where water goes in from the small spraying hose when you flush. To adjust there is a water mark at the inside of the water tank water should stop at this level. Your float has to be moved or reajusted to stop at this level, usually the float needs to be reajusted down.

  5. I'd agree; it's probably the flapper. It's very easy and inexpensive to make the repair---here's a step-by-step, along with a video clip showing how This Old House plumber Richard Trethewey does it.
