After formatting and updated in itunes.....?

Question

my 3rd gen ipod was in disk mode and itunes did the restore and it said to eject and dock it but what i don't understand is that it is still in disk mode. do i need to do a reset for the apple logo to appear? so the update will take effect? also after the update then itunes won't show my ipod. so after formatting it does - then it tells you to update and restore and i do... but when i open itunes again - no luck it doesn't see my ipod. it has a new battery and was running great before the upgrade. and i've tried the rollback - it didn't work either!! HELP SOMEONE!!!

theres not much you can do at this point but search the through the iPods files via windows explorer and see if you can locate any bugs :/
