Question:

After fumigating a home, how long until it is safe for birds to be there?

My landlord wants to fumigate the home I am renting. The process will take 2 days, (i won't even start on how ridiculous that is and how little they're deducting from my rent for this process).

I'm worried about my birds. (I also have a dog and cat.) How long after they are done do I have to wait to bring my birds back home? Do I have to wait at all?

Should I take the cages out too and keep them elsewhere as well? When they fumigate, is it just gas, or does stuff settle on things such as tables, bowls, etc?

Please help!

  1. It depends on the species.  Organisms with less body mass tend to be more susceptible to toxins.  I'd keep the pets at a relative's house or a friend's house for 1 week, although it's common for pets to only be gone overnight.  Birds are smaller, so I'd give it a week, at least for the birds.
