After giving birth to 5 puppies my dog started peeing in the house. Why?

My dog gave birth to 5 puppies about 5 weeks ago, and she has started peeing the house, big puddles of pee. I can't figure out if something medically is wrong with her or if she is just peeing in the house because she is mad at us for giving the puppies attention, or what. Any answers or suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

  1. Take her to the vet. There are multiple reasons she could be urinating in the house. One of which is a bladder infection. If you have a vet you see often call them up. Many times we let clients just bring in a urine sample to start with.

  2. She is getting back at you for making her have puppies.

Like we need MORE dogs in this world when so many are killed already.

  3. Surely she's entitled too.

  4. My Dog has the same problem she just gave birth to 6 puppies and now has been peeing and pooping in the house I took her to the vet and they told me she was in perfect health and so was the babies. She said there could be many reasons why she is doing this but in my situation it is not a health concern.  I been trying to take her out more frequently even though she doesnt want to leave her babies and this has helped a little but she is still making those messes.

  5. When in doubt, call your vet.  Any dog who starts doing something out of the norm should be seen by the vet to determine if it's behavioral or physical.

  6. She could've injured her bladder while giving birth, therefore she has no control over the urge to pee. She may not be able to hold it in, I would suggest taking her to the vet soon, she may even be in pain.

  7. your dog urinating in the house is common after an animal gives birth. after my wife gave birth to our first son, she commented on how hard it is to hold it in. when she coughs or sneezes or even laughs now she has to be careful not to "squirt' in her underwear.

  8. Well, there are several reasons for this...Your house now has the scent of urine from the puppies, and dogs can't help that smell triggering a pee. It could also be that she isn't getting out as often or convienient as before. She could also have a bladder infection.

  9. Sometimes dogs can have estrogen responsive incontinence. It should usually go away with time, but I would still take her to the vet to rule out a urinary tract infection.

  10. She is a mother now and instinctively she is marking her territory and letting her pups know how things are done when they get older or gone she will stop but in the mean time call her down for peeing in the house and when you do take her and her puppies outside that will help a whole lot it has nothing to do with jealousy or anything like that she is just marking her territory for her pups.
