My father wants me to wait until my MRI next Wednesday and after I see my cancer doctor for a follow-up appointment on Sept 9th,2008. My father wants me to wait until after I see the doctor on the ninth before I give my employer(Wal-Mart) any paperwork about my medical leave of absence due to my chemo treatments from late May to Mid-August 2008.

How soon after finishing chemo treatments for cancer do you give your employer paperwork about your chemo and cancer? Is there a certain time period one has to get this done in? Or should I just wait until after the MRI results and my appointment with my cancer doctor before giving my employer the paperwork over this? What should I do?

I'm still recovering from chemo still. So I'm trying to take it easy as much as possible. My body is still healing from the chemo and cancer.

  1. No two people are the same.  Your doctor and you and your father must decide what is best for you.  It is not worth it for you to go back to work too soon.  Once back at work, believe me, no-one will make allowances for you.  This is a serious illness and serious treatment - rest and get much much better.

I am not sure what paperwork it is you refer to.  I am in UK.

Like you said your body is still trying to heal - give it time.

  2. has your doctor cleared you to go back to work?  i went back to my job about a month after i finished treatment. another factor would be what kind of work you do, i would guess that if you work for wal-mart you probably spend a lot of time on your feet, i work for a grocery store and am on my feet for hours at a time. i agree that you should probably wait until after your scan and follow up appointment, after all what if, god forbid, you would need more treatment? take your time and don't rush back into things too quickly, your body has been through a lot, after all you've been pumping it full of poison for months. good luck

  3. This is a time to listen to your dad, your body, and especially your doctor. Your body has just gone through a major trauma, and you have to recover from it. Your doc will have the final say about you blood counts, and your immune system in general. Best of luck to you.
