  1. In order for the statistic to be meaningful, I think you need to break it up by major or at least general area of study.  Not all fields have the same success rate in terms of resulting in the job originally intended, and I think you'd find more of the better ones tend to have a higher percentage of males in them than females.

Does being in grad school count as being employed?  I've noticed that, at least in my field (engineering -- mostly male at the undergrad level) and at the schools where I've been, a higher percentage of women than men seem to head for advanced degrees to begin with.  You also will need to factor that into your analysis.

Truly meaningful statistics are often rather complicated.

  2. I was for 10 years. Now I am shifting careers and rising the ranks in the process YAY!

  3. If they are serious in the beginning; the percentage is very high.  Whatever you do...make good decisions.  If in doubt; sleep on it.

  4. Most of the women I know work in the field they got a degree or technical experience in--same with the men. Look it up if you want to know for sure.

  5. Speaking for myself - 100%.

  6. It depends more on what they took in college, I think. There just aren't as many jobs in certain subjects. A few of my friends are sociology majors and there's a pretty good chance they won't be employed as sociologists, but I'm a geology major and I'm pretty much guaranteed to get my pick of jobs in my field. So, it just depends on what degree they get.

  7. I agree that it depends on what they majored in. Some majors have more practical applications than others.

  8. The very same as their male classmates. Why don't you do your own research?
