  1. It depends on how long you've signed up for. The time (say, 6 years) begins the day you walk into the Basic Training program.


  2. "Navigators" are line officers who are engaged in plotting the course for ships. Most are trained on the job aboard ship. Since you hold your commission at the pleasure of the President, he can void your commission at any time. But, most line officers serve a minimum of five years on active duty before transfer to a reserve component or resignation of their commission.  

  3. Enlisted or Officer?   all contracts are for 8 years.   minimum 4 years AD for Enlisted, minimum 5 for most Officers.
