So the numbing has gone away in about 3-4 hours now. But now when I bite down on my teeth they hurt is this a normal feeling? Basically what my dentist did was he scraped off all of the tartar and plaque build up and just so happens that my teeth hurt when I bite down.

  1. They will probably be a little tender for a day or two.

I always recommend taking ibuprofen for discomfort  (or whatever you would take to resolve a headache).

Another thing that may help is: Get two tall glasses. Fill one with warm salt water. Plop down in front of your favorite TV show and take a sip of the salt water, swish it for about 30 seconds and spit it into the empty glass. Keep doing this for about half an hour. This will help reduce any swelling you may have in your gums and help relieve some of the discomfort you're feeling.

Like I said, it should only last a day or two. If it keeps up beyond that, let your Dr know.

  2. it is normal for the teeth to be tender after a deep cleaning.  The gums are irritated by the cleaning process and it will get better in a couple days as the swelling begins to go down
