After hearing about the afl's plan of having 18 teams in total, how would you feel Tasmania setting up a team?

In my opinion Tasmania deserves a fair go they have more afl fans per capita then anywhere else in Australia. Iam a victorian but believe if there is a state which is missing out its tassy

I think Tassie has a team playing in the VFL based in Launcesten. They are on better financial ground than a lot of the Melbourne AFL teams.

I'd love to see them join the AFL. They could get Gunns LTD to be the major sponsor. It's about the only way that gunns could win some fans in Tassie.

PS: Im from Brisbane and cant wait til we have a "Cross City Rival" for the Lions but i think 2015 would be a better time frame.

Tasmania not a bad choice,  Northern Territory maybe?,  or not enough supporters up there, or warm weather?

Yes i think Tassy needs a team. They love their VFL side and i think they would love their own AFL side so i think Tassy should get a side, i dont think Northern territory is capable for one but Tas very much so

Tassie should be high on the agender, they get good crowds when they play games there it just makes sense to try there.

Tassie indeed has more devoted fans per capita than anywhere else.  Their problem, like Canberra is that 'Capita' word ... populations of 400,000 or so mean that 1 in 20 people have to attend every game to get consistently good crowds.

That said - Canberra was pulling 12,000 a game for boring old Kangaroos and Tassie pulls similar numbers.  Those numbers are better than the Brisbane Bears did at Carrara.

I'd love to see 17 and 18 in Canberra and Tassie where the fans are but it won't happen sadly.

Tasmania already have a team. The Hawks play 4 games at Launceston at the moment....it wont be too long before the move becomes permanent.

I think Tassie deserves a AFL team but the jokers who run the show will wait for the next Melbourne based club to be in trouble and expect them to move there

This time it wont be optional like North Melbourne's offer it will be move or you're gone

I support the Hawks and if it came to fold or move I would be happy to see them move to Tassie

This also fits into MY grand plan of a team in North Queensland

IM from Tassie, and i would love to see them have a side in the AFL, but sadly i dont think they have the funds to stay alive in the AFL

If twere just keenness, Tassie would have a team already - the Hobart Hawks maybe?

Main problem is not enough money in Tassie, there is too much " unaligned "money in the Gold Coast and Sydney, someone needs to invest it - therefore areas that don't give a shoot get an AFL team.

I think that Tassie should have a team insted of Western Sydney.

Western Sydney is the Rugby League capital of Australia so why fight a battle in which the AFL cant win? The Rugby League will be priority over AFL if say the Brisbane Broncos are playing the Melbourne Storm over Western Sydney playing the Swans.

I would prefer to see a team up north queensalnd, Canberra or Launceston. "The Launceston Icebergs (or Penguins??)"

you need to build teams where there is already support, not where you need to FIND support.

I would say that Tassie are already setting up a team....Hawthorn! Tassie Hawks! But yeah they should have a team down there as they do love their footy.

So as for adding another 2 teams.....as it would be 16 including Tassie hawks...i would say they will probably go with another team in NSW....maybe Gold coast as one and then Darwin as the 18th. ACT Canberra will probably eventuly get the Kangas.  Just my opinion.

Tasmania would be a good move.  They have a ready made fan base.

I live in the ACT and outside of guest appearances, AFL wouldn't work here.  ACT Brumbies and Canberra Raiders dominate the market.
