what steps do i take after high school to become a police officer??

I would check with your local police department, since that is where you want to be, and see what requirements they have.  Some departments have a preference as to where you recieve training, so it is best to check.  You'll probably want to call to schedule an appointment with someone to talk to about this, and maybe even set up a few ride-alongs and interviews so you can see what the job is like.
