After hours in the stock market?

I want to know if the after hours movement of a stock affects the opening price of the stock the next day??? E.g. If xom closes day trading a7 $78, and at the after hours the price of the stock falls to $75, will it open the next day at $75 or close? or does it have no influence at all?

Thanx for your response

  1. It depends what happens overnight and pre-market.  But don't put too much emphasis on extended hours trading, which can be very light at times (one person anxious to buy or sell can throw that off).

I don't trade that often.  Early on I got shaken out pre-market when the price appeared to be gapping down.  Then it rose back up during regular market hours.

But after some experience I bought stock when I noticed a short squeeze happening and sold it pre-market the next day for a quick 7%.  It quickly dropped back from there when the regular markets opened.

  2. Yes after hours trading effects the price as does premarket trading.

  3. Yes.

What happens 'after hours' does have influence on the next day's opening price.
