  1. yeah thats them. I did triple jump for three years in high school and I got them bad.  Ice them as much as possible and take it easy until they feel better. Run some but not a lot.

  2. Yup its shin splints but don't worry it just means that your legs aren't used to all the running. After running regularly the pain should disappear. Try following the Track&Field and Cross-country practices since they are the ones that helped me get rid of my shin splints.

  3. You could have shin splints....ouch is all i have to say.

  4. Make sure to stretch and warm up your calves before any strenuous exercise.  I bet that clears up your problem.  Also, could be you are just out of shape.

  5. you probbly do have shin splins, you get them from running on a lot of different surfaces, like grass to cement, or turf to a track.

  6. Shin splints is a generic name given to several injuries, and is not a diagnosis in itself. You should get your legs checked by a doctor to see if it is a muscular problem due to strain or something more serious like a stress facture.

Here is what will help (if you dont have a stress facture): (i) Ice your lower leg regularly. What I find useful is friction icing---on each lower leg, rub a big cube of ice till it melts fully (about 10 min each leg). (ii) Consider taking a week or so off. (iii) Stretch stretch stretch---you may be doing it already and you may not be a novice at all, but try to get someone else to oversee it for a few times. Often, even those who know better have a tendency to ignore some aspects when it comes to themselves. (iv) Get a gait analysis done to see if your shoes match your pronation. Most running stores will be happy to do it for free.

  7. a

  8. i had  the same problem  when i first started to try to get into shape because i was very out of shape im not saying that you are but that is what happened to me

  9. Well it's shin splints if you run really hard or do anything that makes air go past your legs real fast.

  10. um sounds like it see your doctor he could tell you more what to do .......

i run track and know alot of people with them they just ice them down as much as possible

  11. hello,its called Weight Watchers!

  12. Shin splints is the general name given to pain at the front of the lower leg. Shin splints is not a diagnosis in itself but a description of symptoms of which there could be a number of causes. The most common cause is inflammation of the periostium of the tibia (sheath surrounding the bone). Traction forces occur from the muscles of the lower leg on the periostium causing shin pain and inflammation.

    Symptoms of shin splints:

        * Tenderness over the inside of the shin.

        * Lower leg pain which goes after a period of rest but comes back when running starts again.

        * Sometimes some swelling.

        * Lumps and bumps may be felt when feeling the inside of the shin bone.

        * Pain when the toes or foot are bent downwards.

        * A redness over the inside of the shin.

    Shin Splints Treatment

Treatment for shin splints is a simple as reducing pain and inflammation, identifying training and biomechancial problems which may have helped cause the injury initially, restoring muscles to their original condition and gradually returning to training.

What can the athlete do about shin splints?

        * Rest to allow the injury to heal.

        * Apply ice or cold therapy in the early stages, particularly when it is very painful. Cold therapy reduces pain and inflammation.

        * Stretch the muscles of the lower leg. In particular the tibialis posterior is associated with shin splints.

        * Wear shock absorbing insoles in shoes. This helps reduce the shock on the lower leg.

        * Maintain fitness with other non weight bearing exercises such as swimming, cycling or running in water.

        * Apply heat and use a heat retainer or shin and calf support after the initial acute stage and particularly before training. This can provide support and compression to the lower leg helping to reduce the strain on the muscles. It will also retain the natural heat which causes blood vessels to dilate and increases the flow of blood to the tissues.

        * Visit a sports injury clinic for treatment and rehabilitation.

What can a sports injury clinic or doctor do?

        * Prescribe anti-inflammatory medication e.g. ibuprofen. (Always consult a doctor before taking medication).

        * Tape the ankle for support. - A taping worn all day will allow the shin to rest properly by taking the pressure off the muscle attachments.

        * Analyse running style for over pronation and other biomechanical problems of the foot.

        * Use sports massage techniques on the posterior deep muscle compartment but avoid the inflamed periostium.

        * Operate

    Important

        * Anti inflammatory drugs along with rest and ice can help reduce inflammation, particularly in the early stages. However if the underlying causes such as tight muscles are not treated through stretching and sports massage techniques then the likelyhood of the injury returning is higher.

Which products can help with treatment of shin splints?

Some products which can help with treatment and prevention of shin splints are outlined below. Please consult your therapist before using any products as they may not be compatible with your particular therapists approach to treatment.

    Shock absorbing insoles

Shock absorbing insoles can help reduce the shock and impact transmitted through the foot to the lower leg, particularly when running on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Buy Insoles (UK), Insoles (USA)

    Orthotic insoles

Orthotic insoles are firm insoles designed to correct biomechanical dysfunction such as over pronation. They will usually have strong arch support. Off the shelf orthotic insoles are available and suitable for many, although for the perfect fit a Podiatrist will make them specifically for your feet.

    Shin and calf supports

Shin and calf supports can provide compression and support for the lower leg and retain the bodies natural heat. Buy calf supports (UK), calf supports (USA)

    Slant boards

A slant board is a simple but effectrive device which helps with accurate and progressive stretching of the calf muscles. Buy slant board (UK)

    Cold Therapy

There are a range of cold therapy products available which make applying ice or cold therapy simple and convenient. Buy cold therapy (UK), cold therapy (USA)

    Sports Strapping Tape

Zinc oxide sports tape is excellent for applying a simple taping technique. Buy sports tape (UK), sports tape (USA).

  13. I've got shin splints and flat feet, waited around and never fixed either, go to a doctor and fix them as soon as possible so you can continue playing, I am done with sports because I never fixed them.

  14. After you exercise you should walk around, if you just sit right after, I heard when you're older you may get a disease that involves with your vessels there.

  15. Sounds like shin splints to me. You have to warm up your legs before you start to play, like doing free squats for example. ( meaning no weights..).

  16. You need to warm up before you do anything sports like.. you probably do have shin splints, if you rub your shins with your hands and it hurts bad, it's most likely them. What i used to do to make them feel better is ICE THEM LOADS. it takes alot of the pain away.
