After itune convert where the file will be? mp3 or mp4 better format for music?

I use itune play my music library, itune ask permission to convert file to m4p. I wonder itune will convert it and keep the org in org folder? Or convert it and replace the org mp3 file?

Which is the best application to play music, which have wma, mp4, mp3, cda? Thanks.

i think mp4 is supposed to be for videos, right? it will keep the orig. mp3 if it does do the conversion.

you can always find out information about different file extensions like mp3 and mp4 from http://filext.com/

It keeps the original. It copies it into the itunes folder ( (my)music >> iTunes) then converts the copy.
