Question:

After knee injury, and the knee is swollen,how long a wait before bending & weight exercises start at home?

I just got hit on the inside of my left knee and it is swollen very badly. I can straighten it, but have a lot of trouble bending in. The inside where i was hit hurts like crazy when i bend it and it feels like it wants to slip out. However, I can put weight on it with a decent splint, or even just a nice brace. Should I wait until the swelling is completely gone before doing my own bending and stretching exercises, then weight training?

  1. You need to see a physio. What it is safe to do depends entirely on the exact nature of your injury. No one will be able to tell you what that is without seeing it and feeling it. In the meantime, rest, ice, compression and elevation - the mainstays of treatment for soft tissue injuries.
