After looking at ALL TIME medal standings, why is everyone declaring China as a superpower (see below)?

In ALL TIME standings they still lag far behind the USA, Russia, and several European countries. I think it is too premature to be declaring them as a world power in the Olympics.

China is a Superpower regardless of the Olympics its size and or population. The Fact that they owned the olympics is only a statement to the world. With about a 3 trillion dollar surplus.Thier economy and the fact that we buy almost everything from China will insure a long relatioship...until our religions and prejudice consume us and our grandkids will be speaking an English/Chinnese Hybryd langauge.

Not sure about that. Have you ever been to China? I have and I would say this, don't ever ever underestimate the Chinese. They are an up and coming super power. It will come soon I think. I don't like the idea of a world super power but if they are for peace then no problem.
