After losing Dan Haren, Los Angeles Angels show optimism to sign Zack Greinke – MLB Update
Losing Dan Haren was certainly a disappointing thing for the Los Angeles Angels but now they are somewhat recovering from that shocker when their long-time experienced starter signed with the Washington Nationals overlapping their short-term offer.
However, now the Angels’ have turned their attention towards signing free agent Zack Greinke. The Angels' general manager Jerry Dipoto also seemed confident during the 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings as he spoke to several reporters and explained Greinke’s importance for the team.
"We've talked through a handful of starting pitchers as well as some bullpen targets, We are continuing to stay in touch with the right people. Where we go from here is timing. We'll get the right pieces. It's just a matter of when," Dipoto added regarding the Angels needs on the mound.
Greinke, a free agent, is currently also looking for a potential contract with some leading Major League team. He last played for the Angels and finished with great numbers. He went with 3.48 ERA along with 15-5 win-loss, 200 strike-outs and 1.20 WHIP. His career ERA of 3.77 along with 91-78 win-loss, 1332 strike-outs and 1.25 WHIP also makes his free agency more attractive.
Coming onto Haren’s signing with a new team as many believe his new beginning will prove more beneficial for his own game. Though Haren earlier linked with the Angels, but somehow his potential talks with the management went ineffective and he agreed to play for the Washington Nationals.
“Danny’s one of the best competitors I’ve ever seen on the mound, Although a scout might evaluate him in the stands and see that his stuff isn’t quite as crisp as it was three or four years ago, it’s still good, He knows how to pitch,” said Los Angeles Angels' manager Mike Scioscia.
Haren played aggressively during the last season with Angels as he went 4.33 ERA along with 12-13 win loss, 142 strike-outs and 1.29 WHIP. His career ERA of 3.66 along with 119-97 win-loss, 1585 strike-outs and 1.18 WHIP also makes a good role player in the league.
Now with a different team, Haren will start a new beginning and will be seeking a better future with them.
