After my car accident, I'm really nervous to drive again. What do I do?

I got into a car accident on St. Patrick's Day. It wasn't terrible, but it was bad enough that they had to replace my car because the frame was twisted, and the airbag went off and almost broke my nose. I have my new car and everything, but I'm terrified of driving. I'm pretty calm while I drive, but I'm very timid and constantly worried if I'm in someone's blind spot or that someone's gonna pull out in front of me. I just want to be able to drive without anything being an issue. What can I do?

  1. It will take some time to get comfortable driving again. It took me a couple of months to feel comfortable behind the wheel again after my car accident. I totalled my car when I was trying to make a left hand turn onto another road. A car came flying around the curve and hit me. The accident happened over five years ago and I still to this day will go out of my way to avoid that intersection. So don't worry I'm sure things will get better for you in a few months. : )

  2. There is a song that goes, " pick yourself up, dust yourself off,

and start all over again" And that is what you have to do, just get out there and drive. There are small mirrors that you can attach to your drivers side mirror that will give you more of a view for people on your left side, works like your right side mirror but much smaller.

  3. sit in on a traffic school  or go to the hospitial and talk to people   with your condition or  accident  or therapisit

  4. first of all, blow the horn whenever you sense danger, and second give them the finger.

  5. Take a class.

Go to non busy areas to practice.

In my city, there is a large parking lot at the area. Many times you see people practicing there using the different parking lines to practice. Then try real roads such as country highways or interstate (faster traveling but more room to move with two lanes.

Then start in busy traffic areas.

The more practice, the more confident you become which will make you relaxed. A relaxed driver is less hazardous.

  6. you have to get back on your feet.

i was involved in a accident last year that was not particularly my fault. my father the same day as my accident came home threw me the keys to our family suburban and told me we are going for a drive.

accidents are accidents you just have to have confidence in your self not to much but not to little.

start out small and get bigger if you would like.

drive around your neighborhood or a slow moving, easy to read, low populated area then move up to maybe a open 55 mph highway and just get the feel back.

and just get comfortable behind the wheel of your car again.

    good luck.

  7. I don't drive yet, but I'm also afraid of driving. Best way is get over your fear. Maybe take public transportation if your city provides it. And be extra careful on the road. Good luck!
