After my day lillies have bloomed should I cut away the foliage?

  1. wait until the foliage turns brown in the fall and then cut to the ground.  this is how the bulb gets ready for the next years bloom.


  2. I live in zone 6 and I never remove them until spring when they it helps to insulate the rhizoms over the winter.  In the spring when they begin new growth and chances of frost and  freeze has passed I remove the dead ones  then.  I usually like for them to be at least 3" to 6" tall before I remove the dead ones.
