How do I make the floor not slippery? I tried rubbing the floor with a towel soaked in warm water but it did not work.

  1. Use rubbing alcohol, or wood alcohol, and then rinse with a water-soaked rag, then a dry fluffy towel.

  2. Assuming your wood floors are finished with polyurethane (oil modified) "Doc" suggestions for cleaning your floor were right on the money.

Might I also add that it is -never- a good idea to place a rubber backed rug on a wood floor. The rubber backing prevents the wood floor from "breathing", and could  trap moisture between the backing and the floor. At the very least it can discolor the finish on your wood floors, which only a complete sand and refinish will fix.

I would not recommend the use of Murphy's Oil Soap on a wood floor finished with polyurethane.

While "Sneaky" is correct that it does smell nice, the use of Murphy's might make a buff and recoat impossible in the future.^

  3. I would use murphys oil soap for mopping and hard floors it works really great and smells great also..

  4. instead of ruining your floor put blue tac under the mat
