  1. go to annualcreditreport.com This is the only site that will give you a free credit report. You will be asked some validation question before viewing your credit report. Here is how it works

  2. There are websites like FreeCreditReport.com that are NOT free. To receive a free report from these sites you must apply for their services. Legally, you are entitled to a free report from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) each year. Go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com to get a copy with NO fees and no requirement to subscribe to services.

  3. You are allowed to get a free annual credit report once a year by going to http://www.annualcreditreport.com.

    But DON'T do it yet!

You are also allowed to receive a free report if you believe you are the victim of identity theft, and you have filed a fraud alert.  So don't waste your free report, make them give you the fraud alert...then wait several months and check it again with your free annual report.
