After racing at the Haydock in May, Ferdoos is all set for the Qipco British Champions Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes at Ascot on Saturday week
Relatively inactive this season with only one run, Roger Varian’s four-year old Ferdoos is stepping in for the Qipco British Champions Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes at Ascot on Saturday week. It was last time in May that she raced and won, despite the fact
that she ran just once, it is commendable that she did leave her mark in that single attempt this year till yet as she will be soon seen racing at the Ascot.
"Her work has been leading up to Ascot and it's fingers crossed that she can take her chance”, said Varian.
It was thrice that Ferdoos raced last year, winning the maiden the very first time and then also claiming a victory at the next racing attempt.
Her third racing experience could have entitled her for a hat trick only if she had won the Ascot with Philip Robinson.
At the Ffos las on 10th September last year, she won on a field of six horses.
Ferdoos held up, switched right and went smoothly for headway over three furlong out, led two furlong out, then pushed clear and finished quite impressively.
Second in the race was Roger Charlton’s Sea Of Heartbreak who raced under Steve Drowne and it was Ralph Beckett’s Ashbrittle who ended up third with Jim Crowley on the track.
The race had a Richard Hannon entry, Lethal Glaze under Pat Dobbs who positioned fourth.
Ferdoos’s first race and win this season was at the Haydock on 20th May with seven other candidates racing for the title.
She first tracked the leaders then went second over two furlong out, ridden over one furlong out, had to challenge when she went in the final furlong but she became tactical by getting hold of the lead which she actually did towards the finish.
Roger Varian said: "She had a setback after her run at Haydock in May but she had a break through the summer and has been back in training for a good while now”.
Sir Henry Cecil’s Vita Nova came second in the race with Tom Queally onboard and was then followed through the wire by David Lanigan’s Meeznah, qualifying for the third position. Sir Michael Stoute’s Crystal Capella came fourth with Jamie Spencer onboard.
Ferdoos’s performance at the Ascot will reveal if this race will result in posting a victory or some other rating down the line for her record which till yet shows just one run and win throughout the season.
