It is a Toyota Tercel 1992. The stereo is KOSS. I am a novice (obviously) and really could use some tips!

  1. It is likely that you wired the speakers to the lights instead of the ground.

I would disconnect it all, identify the wires properly and re-wire.

  2. I'm sure you know by now cutting the factory harness was a big mistake. Yes there are adapter harness for your Tercel but they will not do you any good unless you can reconnect the factory plug you cut off. At this point you are going to need a wiring diagram.Try the link below for info on Toyota factory radio harness. The diagram tells you what color each wire is  so you can connect the corresponding wire from your stereo. If the plug you cut off looks like the one shown then all the info you need is right there. Feel free to contact if you need any more help.

  3. get to the place where you re-wiring your stereo. i'm sure they can work something out...

  4. from what you posted, i believe you did not use a wiring harness to install the new stereo and probably had to cut the original wires in the car.

get one and it will be much easier to install. they shouldnt be over $11.

they sell them at audio stores just ask for one for ur car. its basically a plug with wires on one end. each wire is colored to match the exact wires on the stereos and makes the installation very easy, fast and safe.

because from your original post, you are probably using the "acc" wire on the stereo, and connected it to the headlights power wire.

if you did use a wiring harness, then recheck your wires.
