and all the talk of a control tyre in 2007, I was wondering ...

if you were made president of Dorna, what rules would you put in place for 2009 (because you are passionate about racing and not just trying to line your pocket ;) ?

I havent a clue about mechanics of bike racing etc, and I know that MotoGP is a premier class and technology has to develop, I would love another season of the 990's or 500's. Although after reading about Yahamas developement for 2008, I am hopeful (or maybe just a bit gullable :) ) of exciting close racing.

  1. Hi Cheryl H. Your absolutely right. bring on technology. bring on development. the idea is to get bike AND rider around a circuit  for a certain distance in the quickest possible time. that's my definition. You cant have just bike, that's robotics, you cant have just rider, that's athletics. its man/woman and machine in harmony. GP is the pinnacle of all that is. it will develop and evolve. this year has got to be the best ever ...

I know it will be.......and I cant wait.

  2. My heart says 750 2 strokes with as much fuel and as many tyres as you need, with no traction control.

Obviously thats pure fantasy and will never happen.

So therefore as a slightly more plausible scenario, I would like to see a return of the 990 4 strokes, with this years tyre rules and a fuel restriction of 22 litres. And as much or as little electronic aids as the rider wants (depending on his riding style etc).

Whatever happens I'm fairly confident that the coming season will be better than last. (Casey's still gonna be the man to beat though)

  3. I have nothing bad to say about new idea's been brought into MotoGP as long as they dont ruin " The Show " .

I quess the biggest advancement we have had is the change to 4 strokes in the blue ribbon class.

Its weird really, as I remember reading an article by the great Erv Kenemoto, saying how he knew that one day the 4 stroke would return, but was aslo happy to see the back door of them and bring on the mighty & more powerfull 500cc 2 strokers.

Funny how life repeats its self.

  4. Hey cheryl,

I would let them have all the tyres they wanted (with the proviso of all tyres having to be physically in the paddock by Friday - so they can't fly in one off's - taking geography out of the equation)

I would let them have as much (or as little) traction control as they wanted, and engine mapping etc. but no "remote control" tweaking - as in real time during the race. The courses and the quality of the rider will always shine through I think.

But most importantly, I would insist on a Saturday night "weigh in" like the boxers do - stripped to their keks and looking all moody and giving each other the evils, which would not only give me a huge grin, but if televised should boost the viewing figures amongst the female audience! ;o)

  5. wooooooooooooooooooooooow. thats really interesting.
