I was surfing the web today and a fake anti-virus software installed itself. I managed to get rid of the program (thank God). But there is still a "VIRUS ALERT" next to my clock. How do I get rid of it?

Thanks~

  1. Do NOT use Spyware Cleaner 2008, you will get more problems.

The following are free and should solve the problems left behind:

    Remove Restrictions Tool:

    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/RR...

Download from Softpedia Secure Download (RO), install, run and check all boxes then click Apply and then reboot. This tool re-enables what codecs/viruses have disabled.

    Wallpaper Hijacker Removal Tool:

Note: You should hit all "Repair" buttons even though it may not say "Found!" This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

Download, install, update and select Full Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

    Comodo BO Clean:

Simply download and install, follow instructions on screen.

  2. Antispyware 2008 (or Antispyware2008) is a rogue antispyware program. Antispyware2008 is a clone of Antivirus 2008, Antivirus2008, WinX Security Center, DoctorAntivirus2008, VistaAntivirus2008, SystemAntivirus2008, Antivirus2009, Antivirus 2009, Antivirusxp2008, Antivirus xp 2008. Antispyware2008 was designed to trick users into purchasing the "full" version of Antispyware2008 application. Usually, Antispyware2008 can be installed by a Trojan program, through browser security exploits or via other unethical mechanisms. After installation Antispyware2008 will attempt to scare user into purchasing the commercial version of useless program by displaying fake warning messages claiming that user's computer is infected with dangerous spyware. Do not buy Antispyware2008 because it does not remove any spyware and is designed only to lure Internet users out of their money.
