  1. Drink as much as you think that you need to drink.  If you are going for 40 minutes there is 0% chance of over hydrating.  There just isnt enough time for your body to loose enough electrolytes.  As for eating, you shouldnt eat a thing.  Your body has over 1000 calories stored as glycogen so realistically you will need to burn atleast 800 calories before you need to replace anything.  And to burn 800 calories of glycogen in 40 minutes you are going to have to be running at about an 8 minute mile or faster.  So dont worry about eating during your workout.  If you find that you are going for an hour or more, then you may want to consider food.

As for supplements there is no need.  Unless it is SUPER hot out and you are sweating pounds off per minute you arent loosing enough minerals to worry about potassium or sodium loss.

  2. Just drink about 16 oz of water, half banana should be plenty. If you sweat a lot, add some sodium in the water - so that you can BARELY tell there are sodium in the water.
