  1. In 50 years retail, I had this occur only once.

    The card issuer immediatly called by phone.

    When I told the customer that they wished to speak to him, he hurridly left the store.

    It was a stolen card.  

    Thieves ordinarily keep purchases under the known limit that requires no authorizatuon.  About $20-25.00.

    Usually the salesperson will turn it over to management to handle and the card is retained.

    In some cases, a recovered stolen card results in a reward.  Often about $50.00.


  2. I would ask for ID to make shore it is theirs and if not keep it and report the person
