After some jolts, the Cincinnati Reds rotation improving
The Cincinnati Reds team manager on Saturday, March 17, acknowledged on Saturday that the team might not have had good start as far as the rotation is concerned. Baker also made a frank admission that the games the team has won so far were not due to the rotation.
"That's the key. Games we haven't played well or performed well didn't have good starting pitching," Baker said before Saturday's game. "It's no secret. That's where it starts. These guys are coming around. Keep remembering it's how you finish, not how you start."
The comments came after the Saturday game whereby the Reds took over the Cleveland Indians. The Reds were strong enough to win a comfortable 9-2 victory over the Indians, nonetheless, the Reds’ starter Bronson Arroyo did not seem particularly pleased either.
One of the experienced players in the side, Arroyo so far has no good Cactus League games. The three starts that he has had, the starter has 6.00 ERA which in no way is satisfying for him.
"It gives a bad mood to the organization as far as the way things are headed, even though it doesn't mean a whole lot. It was nice to go out there, get off to a good start and have a nice lead and make everybody comfortable about what we're doing out there."
But the recent performance of the rotation has been up to the mark. Take for example the last few days’ pitching spells by the starters. From Mat Latos to Johnny Cueto to Bronson Arroyo, they have had an ERA of 1.50 in the three games.
With 12 innings pitched in those three games, coupled with the victory over the Cleveland Indians, the Reds’ rotation has proved they are capable of doing the supposedly impossible.
From the commencement of the Cactus League up until now, the Reds have shown some palpable improvement. In the days to come, if the same performance is continued, the Reds will be too difficult a rotation and bullpen to easily overcome. This means an ever stronger team in the making as the Reds prepare themselves for the regular season.
