After successful hernia surgery, Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton expected to kick off Spring Training
The Texas Rangers on Friday stated that their outfielder Josh Hamilton has undergone surgery to repair a sports hernia on his left side. The surgery which was carried out in Philadelphia by Dr. William Meyers is expected to enable the outfielder to start
Spring Training.
With his return to Texas on Saturday, it will take Josh Hamilton some time for rehabilitation and formal start of Spring Training. Prior to this, Hamilton had also had surgery in 2009 by the same doctor to repair a torn abdominal muscle in his right hand.
The team general manager Jon Daniels, while speaking to journalists about Hamilton commented that the surgery went well and that he will soon be ready to start the Spring Training.
"The surgery went well from what we were told," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He is recovering comfortable and should be ready to go. From what I've heard, a sports hernia is an overused term but encompasses different things.”
Josh Hamilton had a fairly fascinating season this year. He maintained a .298 average in the regular season with 80 runs to his credit, having hit 25 home-runs, having had 94 RBIs in 487 at-bats. His World Series average stood at .353 with three runs that
he scored in 17 at-bats.
Daniels also spoke about Nelson Cruz, having a strained right groin and Mike Napoli who had a sprained left ankle. The two players are reported to be having their treatments these days as they rest prior to Spring Training.
"We're going to give those guys a few weeks and then we'll check on them," Daniels said. "Probably right after Thanksgiving we'll check in with them, see how they're progressing and make sure there are not any issues we need to address."
The Texas Rangers made their way into the best-of-seven World Series this year playing against the St. Louis Cardinals. Although the team fought well, they were eventually beaten by the Cardinals 4-3 in the Series.
With the players getting treatment and the ones undergoing surgery, the Rangers hope they will activate a strong side next year to compete against their rivals in the 2012 regular season.
