After sweet corn is picked from the field, does it need to be refrigerated immediately?

Corn is still in it's husks. Can it be left out at room temperature?

  1. You can leave it out for days and it'll still be good enough. But -

    The sugars in corn present when picked start turning to starches moments after being picked and refrigeration slows this process.

    So, if you like your corn sweet and tender you'd want to keep them burrrr cold!

  2. If it's pretty cool in your house it will be OK for several hours, you want to get it refrigerated after it's picked within 6 or so hours.  It is better off left in the husk if unrefrigerated.

  4. nope. It could stay at room temperature for a couple of days. But i think you should take them out of their husks and be put in the refrigerator because what if there are worms inside? but if there aren't then you could definitely just leave them at room temp.

  5. Refrigeration would dehydrate it; leave at room temperature.

    Corn should be eaten the same day as picked, ideally.

    Because the natural sugar starts breaking down into starch.

    If you have too much, peel & shuck from the cob & freeze it.
