After the Trade to the Texas Rangers, Ryan Dempster speaks of his ambitions – MLB News
The Texas Rangers newly acquired starter Ryan Dempster on Tuesday, July 31, spoke of how the trade actually materialised between the Chicago Cubs and Rangers. The Cubs got Christian Villanueva and the young right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks from the Texas Rangers in the trade.
Tuesday’s Trade Deadline proved to be utterly amazing. Sensational will indeed be an understatement. The Cubs were probably not anticipating it, or vice versa. Whatever the case, Ryan Dempster is now part of the Texas Rangers’ line-up.
Dempster is now looking forward to contributing to the Rangers’ wins, a team that has never won the World Series title. Last year when they were incredibly close to achieving the milestone for the first time, they were outdone by the St. Louis Cardinals.
But with the materialisation of this trade, which had previously involved the Los Angeles Dodgers as well, Dempster has his eyes set on the future, doing something worthwhile for the American League defending champions.
"Once the Dodgers were out, there were two teams that got in on it, and the Rangers moved really fast," Dempster said. "They obviously have a very good team, and I'm going to go down there and hopefully be a small piece of what they have going there.”
Dempster knows the strength of the Texas Rangers; endowed with some of the best pitchers in the Major League Baseball along with equally accomplished hitters. He hopes he will be an important part of this winning side.
Dempster said, “They're in first place and proven winners the last couple years. I'm going to go down there and hopefully sneak in the back door and try to blend in and do my job when asked to do my job."
Ryan shall be free agent by the end of the season. Who will then go for acquiring this player is something that cannot be stated with certainty. With 2.25 ERA this season, which remains the best for Dempster, the starter has an opportunity to further improve the record by being part of the Rangers.
That is what the team and his avid fans expect from the experienced and forceful starter.
