I am a US Citizen and I want to know how long it will take NVC (National Visa Center) to process the case of my wife after USCIS gets done with it. Does anyone have any idea?

  1. It depends on the country where your spouse is living.  Some, like Mexico and the Philippines, will take over a year.  Others, like Canada and the UK are somewhat shorter.

The NVC is not the final destination for your application.  It goes to the embassy/consulate in the foreign country where she's living.  That's where the big investigation will be done and that's where the final yes or no will be decided.

  2. No Yak, you're wrong, it does depend on the country. when I applied for my wife it took 6 weeks to get from USCIS to NVC to the embassy in the Philippines. Three weeks later she had her appointment letter for her embassy interview. I have never heard of it taking a year after USCIS get done with the application.

  3. On an IR/CR-1 petition, it's taking NVC about 6 months to process the petition and send it on to the embassy. Some embassies do have backlogs on immigrant visa interviews. Plus, some petitioners are slow in responding to NVC when they're contacted, so that can change the time frame as well. However, NVC is processing K-3 petitions and passing them on to the embassies at a much faster pace as there's less for them to do before they send it on.

  4. It does depend on the country shelives in. My fiance lives in Japan. When NVC received my case, it took about 1 week. then it was sent to her consulate in Tokyo.
