  1. I agree with the first answerer.  Gone are the days when the House of Commons was full of decent people from humble backgrounds who wanted to work for the good of the country.  Today's MPs are in it for the money and the glory.

The likes of Nye Bevan and Tony Benn are no more in today's Government.  People with strong convictions and social conscience don't seem to become MPs anymore.  Our current shower do it for the career opportunities.

I have little or no faith in the government right now.  I don't beleive a d**n thing they say - every decision they make is for their own benefit, not ours.

  2. I assume you are talking about the 42 days detention proposition which was never expected to be passed by the House of Lords in the first place.

The House of Lords is supposed to help protect us from abusive and tyrannical  laws which could infringe on our few freedoms which we still have and currently should enjoy and appreciate.

I have to strongly agree with the House of Lords on this decision, since it is not intended to protect any British citizen, but to head one step closer to a complete 'police state'.

Our freedoms are gradually being taken away by far too many unjust laws and taxes as it is, all claiming to be in the 'Best Interest' of the public.

I do not even believe that 28 days detention is justified.

Without already having some proof ahead of time, there should be no cause for detention in the first place.

If there is not enough evidence to bring charges against someone within 48 hours, the individual should be released on bail.

If sufficient evidence of terrorist activity exists, they should remain in custody without bail conditions until a court date is set no matter how long that may take.

I would like to ask how extending the 28 day detention time as it currently exists to 42 days could have any benefit whatsoever?

If the police have not already got enough evidence to prosecute within 28 days, what makes them or anyone else think that 42 days or 42 months is going to make any difference?

To be fair on the police and security services (which I have great respect and admiration for), as I understand, NEVER even asked for this law in the first place!

    So what is the point?

The extremely sad part about this is that the House of Commons will probably try to use the Parliamentary Act to pass this law anyway.

Although I have never been a fan of David Davis (or any other politician for that matter), I think that he has actually got some morals which far too few politicians possess.

    To answer you original question.

Should the House of Commons be dis-banded?

    My answer would be NO.

I believe very strongly that major changes should take place before it gets too late for all of us.

A very good starting point would be to actually have a proper Constitution.

In my opinion, another major problem is that politicians and voters alike seem to have forgotten that the politician is nothing more than a public servant, being paid to do what we tell them to do, NOT to dictate their mis-guided beliefs on the MASTER who pays their wages!

We should also take control of how much they get paid for their service (or more likely lack of)!

I shall step off my 'soap box' now, but this is something which really needs to be addressed.(My oppinion).

  3. Democracy is hardly a word that can be used in this country.

We have somehow ended up with a non elected Prime Minister who is about to hand out most of our power to an unelected Euro-peon Gravy Train. DEMOCRACY ! Forget it .

  4. I agree!Bring back!Power to the people!!

  5. Yes it should, all the common sense in in the House of Lords. The House of Commons is full of people who are chasing careers rather than thinking about what is best for the country.

  6. What decision ?  42 days detention kicked into touch ?

For the record there still are hereditary peers in the Chamber - 98 I thought are left.  They couldn't think of what else to do.

  7. the lords does NOT contain any life peers any more it is elected by the governement directly or indirectly). It is supposed to be the voice of caution on legislation to avoid BAD laws being passed on a whim of the time.

the lords is a safety measure to ensure we don't suddenly get made into a police state. If a decision goes the way you like its hooray for the lords but if its goes against what you like its 'death of democracy'

sorry somebody turning down a proposal IS DEMOCRACY!

  8. What democracy?  We have little choice and we are ignored.

  9. Yes it should - all they do is waste our hard earned money on stupid EU regulations, pay high pensions to themselves on top of huge salaries, and form endless numbers of committees to discuss things that could be settled so easily by sensible people in a short meeting.  Of course there are no sensible people in Government!!

  10. Democracy is another word for sublimanal control!

  11. Most definately, and it should have happened way before now !
