Yes and no !  It is normal for the weather to get windy around January- March.  I  know this because for the last 3 -4 years bits of my fence and gates have blown down.

I'm not sure how the earthquake affects the land and sea.

We had strong winds the night of the earthquake and when it happened we thought the wind had blown the chimney stack off - till we realised we'd heard no crashing sound!  Then we thought it was just a tremor from old mine workings until our next door neighbour text us to tell us her mother had felt it 150 miles away!
