After watching the brilliant opening of the olympic games I wonder how the h**l London can ever match that ?

In a democratic country of just 60 million people, it's impossible to match or better it.

However I'm sure the ceremony will be surprising, entertaining, and spectacular in its own way.

Remember that London has hosted the Olympics twice before, in 1908 and 1948, and the UK is generally considered to be a modern democratic country, so we have a lot less to prove than the Chinese do.

I can't imagine ANY country topping that.  Very well planned, very well executed.  Shows the type of leadership China has and how effectively they get things done.  Look out, America!

You don't get it do you? They will match it and surpass it simply by TAXING you and me to the hilt. Squeeze a little bit more, and a little more still. Then they are going to raid the lottery funds even more - at the last minute even more still. You and me wont see one single event because we wont be able to afford to buy a ticket, and no jobs will be created from it (north of Watford).

I don't think London will have any problem matching that.  I thought it was ok.  Now topping what Athens did in the early 90's might be an issue.

Oh believe me they will !!!!  they will make sure they spend millions of pounds of OUR money and the tax payer will be paying for it for years and years and years.

I was thinking that yesterday as i watched the opening ceremony but i think London will do it!

Having said that I think China had a lot to prove with their opening ceremony much more than London ever will!!

I would imagine the people in charge of it are doing a lot of thinking today about that very thing . they are probably thinking Wow that is going to be hard to beat, but we are sure going to try.

maybe our opening wont be as spectacular but we wont make 3 million people homeless in order  to build stadiums  on their land and we wont have killed 100's of unskilled  construction workers to build a new city. we wont have forcibly  removed cats dogs,  protesters , beggars etc from the streets. no. im proud to say our olympics wont match the chinese event.

edit. yes little weed. we will pay but it wont be as high a price as the chinese have paid in the loss of homes and lives
