After watcing last nights "tonight" about our household waste problem isn't it better to turn it into enery

Turning it into something, is better then it going in a landfill! I think energy is best but their are also many other objects it can be used for eg clothes. I thought it was disgusting the council wanting 2 change to fortnightly pick up's!!! The Smell, vermins I cant imagine how nasty that would be.

It can be done, but it's tricky.

Because of metal, glass, and water in household waste, it has a low "energy value".  Because of contaminants you need a lot of pollution control equipment to burn it safely.  Burning it will create greenhouse gas and make global warming worse.

It may be best to separate out easily recyclable material and bury the rest.
