  1. After watching pro football for my entire life, I've learned that pre-season is irrelevant.  Most weak teams try to win all their games against the other teams' second-stringers, because they know they won't win the regular season games.

The real talent uses the pre-season to dry run personnel, plays and team chemistry.  And that's all there is to it.

  2. No, not necessarily.  Pre-season stats don't really mean too much in terms of how the team or individual player is going to do in the upcoming season.  They are a lot of things the coaches are doing that will affect the stats.  They may be trying new things on offense to see how defenses react or they may be trying different personnel groupings to see how things work out in certain situations.  Not to mention not all of the starters are going to be playing.  There may be a few 2nd stringers in with the starting line up and that will affect they play of the others.  Coaches just want to see how well these back ups play with the big boys.  Not only that, the teams don't want to show their whole hand yet in a way.  They don't want their schemes to be on film so that the other teams can game plan for them better in the regular season.  As you can see, there are a lot of things that go into a pre season game that causes good or great players to look average.  And on the other hand, this can cause average or mediocre players to look like a pro bowl player.  You can't get a feel for a player until you get to the regular season and play at least a full season.  I personally think Forte can be pretty good.

  3. Really there is no way you can judge a player on two preseason games. And itn didn't help that his first game was against the best LB crew in the NFL. Give it a SEASON at the very least.

  4. No, but the Chicago OL is a joke!

  5. You can never judge a player as a bust until they have at least played a season or two.

Granted, those aren't great numbers, but it's pre-season. These games mean almost less than nothing. They are methods to sort out who stays on the roster, and settling some starter disputes. That's it. I think this isn't the time to judge any player.
