  1. MikeInRi is right, all I could add add is that Barca means lightning.

  2. The city of Barcelona was founded by Octavio Augusto in 12 B.C. It was placed between the Mediterranean sea, the litoral mountain of "la Collserola", and the rivers Llobregat and Besòs. In that place, delimited in that way and at the foot of the Montjuïc  mountain (Mons Jovicus - Hill of Jupiter) was the flat field were the urban settlement was built. The field was often flooded, with rich areas to grow crops and abundance of water.

The etymology of Barcelona describes that scenery: a "bárcena": (from the prerromanic voice *bargĭna, der. from *barga, flooded field, a flat place close to a river, which floods it, completely or partly, and relatively often)

  3. After a famous bar named "Celona". Umbrella drinks on Thursdays...

  4. The city was named by Carthaginian Hamilcar Barca, the father of Hannibal, after his family name to originally the name of Barcino and later changed to Barcelona - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona#H...

    Good Luck!!!
