After winning current edition Lin Dan to stick around for Thomas Cup Finals 2014
China’s best ever shuttler Lin Dan wants to stick around for Thomas Cup Finals 2014 after winning the 2012 edition of this mega team-event tournament on Sunday, May 27, at Wuhan China.
The reigning World Champion and Olympic Gold Medallist Lin, who is currently World Number 2 in Men’s Singles world rankings, showed his remarkable performance on the final day of Thomas Cup and wrapped up victory over Korea’s Lee Hyun Il in a sensational
fashion.
By winning the Thomas Cup, Lin has become the best shuttler in the history of China as he has grabbed 16 major titles surpassing his country-mate Gao Ling who won 15.
Lin has won all major titles at international level including Olympic Games, World Championships, Sudirman Cup, World Cup and Thomas Cup Finals.
While talking about his upcoming plans Lin said that he would be a part of the next edition of Thomas Cup Finals as he has no plan to quit playing at international level at least before two years.
He said, “I don’t know how much longer I can keep going but I’m looking at winning it for the sixth time. I value my participation in this Finals as it was the last for Hyun-il, Peter (Gade Christensen and Taufik Hidayat. It has been great having such talented
players for company.”
He further added, “The Olympic Games are just two months away. I will compete in the Thailand and Indonesia Opens and do my best to be in the form that saw me winning the 2008 Beijing gold.”
However, the Chinese ace possesses more hunger to win the Thomas Cup for one more time to set up a world record for winning this team-event championship for six consecutive times.
Currently China have levelled the record of Indonesia by winning this tournament for five times in a row.
In the final competition of Thomas Cup 2012, China registered a comprehensive victory over Korea with a one-sided 3-0 margin on the score board.
Lin is in good shape at the moment and is determined to go all out to defend his Men’s Singles title in the upcoming Olympic Games 2012.
