Question:

Aftermarket Stereo '95 Buick Century Installation Problem?

Hey guys, I have a 1995 Buick Century and I removed the AC-Delco stero and put in a Jensen HD 5112 and a Dash Install Kit from Scosche.

After I got done, the stereo sticks about 1 1/2 inches out of the cavity it's supposed to go in, and I cant push it back anymore. Its a bit of an annoyance and I was wondering what my option is? It seems theres casing for the Air Vents behind where the radio should go.

Any help would be nice, I dont have the extra cash to take it in and have someone re-do it.

  1. Dear Sazyario:

This is a bit of a difficult predicament due to the design of the factory Delco stereo.  The original stereo is a 1.5 DIN M2000 shallow radio. You're Aftermarket stereo is a different size and shape (hence the need for an install kit). There are unfortunately quite a few millionvehicles on the road where General Motors has designed the inner workings of the dashboard to come up very close behind the shallow factory stereo.  When you attempt to install a new radio that is roughly 7 inches deep on average it hits the back workings of the dash. This is why the kit has the design with the nose sticking out. This is to compensate for cars like yours and S-10 trucks among others that have obstructions in the back of the radio cavity.  Unfortunately there is not alot you can do. In some cases professional installers will use air saws or heat guns to modify the dash structure to create more depth to allow the radio to sit more flush. You would also use a different installation panel that does not have an extended Nose-piece.  This can add alot of time, effort and instensive labor to modify the dash structure.  In some cases the result is vents that do not ciruclate air anymore or excess rattles and other problems. If you do choose to have this done, we recommend that you heavily research your options thoroughly and get the opinion of multiple installers regarding your particular situation.

    Hope this helps.
