I havew numerous aftermarket magazines for my Ruger Mini 30 rifle and none of them will feed properly. The factory 5 round magazines work fine. Does anyone know of a magazine modification or any other possible resolution to make these other mags work properly ? Thanks

  1. Try John Masen mags.

  2. My friend and I have had similar problems with magazines in our Mini 14s and we did some research to see what we could do.  We found that a good quality aftermarket magazine has a heavy piece of metal on the backside of the clip that is not there on the cheaper magazines.  We actually took small pieces of metal and tackwelded them onto the back of the magazines and had great luck.  Bottom line we spent way too much time on it, but found that we could get $20 clips to work fine with a little effort.  Still cheaper than the factory Ruger high capacity clips.

    Good luck

  3. Tell me. Is it usually only the first one that doesnt' feed properly?  If thats the case, then it could be that the springs in the mag are stiff.  drop some oil in there, or replace the spring. sorry, dont know what else to tell you.

  4. Sorry to say that you are having a problem very common to aftermarket magazines. The best cure? right now, you can purchase original Ruger mags thru ads in "shotgun news" (available at Barnes and noble etc) for $35.00 each. BUT, this will not last once the democrats get into office. Prices will skyrocket again back up into the hundreds of dollars, if you can even find them. My advice is spend the money now to get 6-10 magazines for the rifle before the prices go thru the roof.
